When you move to a new city, you need to become familiar with your surroundings. Why not check out the local events and attractions? It gives you a fun way to explore the area and meet other residents. The following list includes several activities to check out in Hamilton this summer.

Festival of Friends

You can enjoy art, crafts and music at the Festival of Friends event, which takes place at Gage Park from August 3rd through August 5th. A variety of artists are set to perform on the Main Stage, Alumni Stage and Country Stage throughout the weekend. Listen to the live music as you check out the merchandise at the many vendors. There are also attractions for children, such as face painting, bouncy castles and pony rides.

Children’s Museum

Your children are sure to enjoy visiting the Children’s Museum. It is full of interactive exhibits that allow them to learn through play, from pretending to sail on a ship to fishing at the dock. There are even weekly events such as Test Tube Tuesday and Funday Friday. This is a great spot to meet other families in the area and learn about other activities for children.

Military Museum

Give yourself a dose of history at the Military Museum, which is housed in the Battery Lodge built by Sir Allan MacNab. The museum is based on the War of 1812. You can get a glimpse into life during the war with the Through Their Eyes exhibit, or you can learn about different shipwrecks at the Hamilton and Scourge Sunken Sunset exhibit. Learn about other landmarks by checking out the Virtual Tour of the War of 1812. Be sure to check out the calendar for different workshops and events.

Conservation Authority

The Conservation Authority gives you access to different areas at an affordable price. You can go swimming at Christie Lake, picnic at Fifty Point or explore the trails of Dundas Valley. Learn the history of the area at the Westfield Heritage Village, or soak up the sun at the Confederation Beach Park. The HCA also gives you access to Wild Waterworks, which is perfect for staying cool throughout the summer season.
