Alair Homes

We all envy a beautiful lush lawn. Besides, what is a beautiful house without an impressive lawn? You can achieve a better lawn with a few quick fixes and tips. Every lawn has different requirements, needs and problems. Part of the solution is identifying your lawns individual needs. Lawn care is not a one solution fits all. Chances are your front yard and back yard requires different care. One area may see sun for most of the day, while the other is mostly shaded with large tree coverage. Although there are many variables, such as soil quality, sun exposure and grass type, here a few quick and simple tips to improve that average lawn into a more impressive lawn.

Watering

Watering your lawn seems like a no brainer but there are actually a few rules to stick by. For a good watering routine, water your lawn when it needs it and at least enough to penetrate the soil to a depth of 3 – 4 inches. Try to water your grass in the morning only. Afternoon watering leads to wasted water through evaporation. Also, the wind is likely to be stronger in the afternoon than early morning also reducing wasted water. Morning watering allows the grass to dry thoroughly before nighttime. Evening watering is not ideal because it leads to mold and fugal growth. When watering be wary of under watering which can lead to shallow root growth rather than the deep root growth that occurs from a proper watering. Remember that overwatering is just leading to a larger water bill. If you want to be really efficient with your water usage and water bill, try installing a water timer.

Mowing

Mowing your grass at the proper height proves to be very important. Cutting more than a 1/3 the length of your grass can lead to damage. Longer grass can lead to less weeds and healthier grass. Take the time to adjust your mower accurately. Use a mulching blade to cut blades finely and to provide easy and natural fertilizer for your grass. Be sure the blade is sharp or the grass will be stressed and shredded leaving it looking brown instead of lush.

For best results identify your type of grass. Proper research will help to identify your particular needs, such as mower height, fertilization needs and watering requirements.

A little extra effort can save work and money in the long run and most importantly provide you with a more enjoyable lawn to enjoy!
