The New Year is upon us, and we can hardly wait for all that 2019 will bring! There’s something really great about starting with a clean slate and setting goals for the year ahead. We’re excited about new and continuing projects and expanding our creativity as we continue to build on our success of the past year.

Taking down the Christmas decorations and preparing to go back to real life and routines also has us pondering what sorts of interior trends are in the forecast for the upcoming year. We wanted to dig into a few exciting trends that we expect to see all over as we head into 2019! Here are the Alair Homes Winnipeg team‘s top five favourites:

Patterns

Patterns, patterns everywhere! We’re big fans of the wallpaper and bold patterns and prints that are making a major comeback. If there’s one element that will add a unique flair to your home, it’s a wallpapered accent wall. And don’t let the word “wallpaper” strike up fear of messy application – wallpaper has come a long way over the past few decades, and there are lots of simple solutions for easy execution of this exciting look. One of our favourite and somewhat unexpected locations for wallpaper as a fun pattern that will provide a bright accent is the bathroom. This is also a great way to try the trend without committing to a whole room.

Jewel Tones

Say goodbye to pastels and neutrals and embrace a bit of colour in your life! Bold primary colours are making a mainstream return and we’re excited to find ways to incorporate this trend in our homes – whether through paint or accent furniture or accessories. Jewel tones are especially trendy right now. They bring a bit of glamour and luxury to a living room or dining room space. Even a jewel tones piece of wall art is a great way to test the waters of this fun new colour style for yourself!

Terrazzo Tile

This type of flooring actually has ties back to ancient Egypt, but is more commonly associated with the Art Deco movement from the early twentieth century. It has a fascinating history of craftsmanship and is making a major reappearance in coffee shops and homes alike. The pebbly, exposed marble look is a great way to play with texture. We love how it looks in a modern, minimalist kitchen.

Acrylic Furniture

Small space dwellers now have an extra good reason to invest in that interesting, modern clear acrylic coffee table. This plastic-meets-chic trend is appearing all over Pinterest. Clear, acrylic furniture is a fun and interesting way to add space and openness to a living room or hallway while still allowing for practical shelving units and side tables. Add a few plants or a woven basket and watch as your space is transformed!

Light Wood Flooring

This is a great trend to bring a feeling of lightness and airiness to any space. We love all things flooring, and watching lighter woods like birch and light oak make a comeback means more options for home builders and renovators.

We can’t wait to see your home reno/redecorating projects for 2019, and we hope you’ll let us know if there’s any way we can help. We’re excited to see these trends in action and watch as your home is transformed into the space of your dreams!

Wishing you all the best in 2019!
