This time of year is exciting for a lot of home owners but for some it can be a very trying. During the winter months we tend to relax on the importance of the aesthetic appeal on the outside of our houses. That dirty winter clouds our creative abilities to see what needs to be improved on our homes. All we envision is dirt and snow. Then the snow melts and the flowers start to come out and it is amazing how all of a sudden that all the things that need to be fixed and upgraded come to life just like the plants. It happens to the best of us…me included. I started taking out all my patio furniture and started thinking about all the wonderful things I would love to do to improve the outside of my castle.

Out with the Old

If you live in an older home like I do it can seem very overwhelming and costly to go as far as replacing windows, or siding. Although, realistically we know that these items will eventually need to be addressed, that’s not the kind of home upgrades I am referring to. There are many simpler and smaller projects that can drastically improve the appearance as well as the functionality of your home and yard. Our season is such a short one and having a five star outdoor living space is so beneficial and can make being outside and spending time with friends and family that much more fulfilling. For example, you may have a patio that has grown tired. You are now at a crossroads, and have been told that you need a deck. Not necessarily. Doing something as simple as closing in or covering your patio is a great cost efficient and friendly addition. This will absolutely add to that so desired curb appeal.

There are many great designs that can include an outdoor gas fireplace, which by the way can be still functional during a fire ban. You may also want to include garden boxes and if in the budget possibly a hot tub. Starting with small improvements each year is often something that is affordable to even the tightest budget. After all Rome was not built in a day. These small additions are maintainable and will be enjoyed by all for years to come. So regardless, if your creative desires may come out of the warm sun and smell of summer it is something that you will also be able to enjoy during those hard winter months as well.

So please before you decide that the possible is impossible, consider and discuss your designs with a professional and know that your dreams await you.
