The homeowners loved their location and acreage life but the home was not functional or well-designed. The goal of the renovation was to open up the existing space and increase the functionality of its design. The homeowners also wanted to be as environmentally responsible as possible. This contemporary home mixes modern design with rustic barn board veneer to create a vintage feel. The focus of the design of this home was to be open and allow one room to flow into another. This is seen in the open kitchen to living area, the open staircase, the glass wall of the yoga room, and the oversized patio doors opening onto the back deck. Special features include the use of authentic barn on the exterior, the incorporation of a dedicated yoga studio into the living space, and City views from the second story patio. The homeowners purchased this 10 acre property 8 years ago, and never planned on leaving. The house unfortunately was not as accommodating. 8’ ceilings, dropped floors, and 2 stairwells to the basement made the large space feel a lot smaller. The homeowners wanted to have enough common space so their family of 4 could live comfortably together, with taller ceilings, more open space in the kitchen, better lighting and windows to fully maximize the beautiful acreage setting. CHBA – Alberta Awards of Excellence in Housing – 2014 Best Renovation over $500,000 CHBA – Edmonton Region Awards of Excellence in Housing – 2015 Best Renovation over $500,000 Our client came to us for a major renovation of the old, small house on their property. 10 months later, a brand new 6550 square foot home boasting 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms, and a 25 foot vaulted ceiling was completed. The grand new home mixes traditional craftsman style with modern and transitional for a comfortable, inviting feel while still being expansive and very impressive. From the soaring ceiling in the entry and living room, with windows all the way to the peak, to a gourmet kitchen with a unique island, this home is entirely custom and tailored to the homeowners’ wants and needs. After an extensive design process including many computer-generated models of the interior and exterior, the homeowners’ decided on every detail before construction began.
