When people think of windows, they think of a space that lets in light and provides ventilation. Window functionality doesn’t stop there.  There are windows designed to be easier to open, ideal for broad views and to be great for airflow. Windows can also be designed to fit the look and decorative style of a building. Let us have a look at a couple of different window types.

Awning windows

Awning windows swing outwards from the bottom and are hinged at the top. They are great for houses that experience plenty of light rain as they keep a house ventilated when experiencing the same. Awning windows shouldn’t be placed in areas where there are walkways and other traffic. This is because they might obstruct the traffic when open as they open out.

Casement windows

If you’re looking for windows which open like doors. Casement windows are for you. They’re secure, energy-efficient and attractive. They are also easy to open. They are energy-efficient because when closed, they make an effective seal which is good for energy performance. They also let more air in and out than other window types. Casement windows shouldn’t be installed to open out into traffic lanes.

Picture windows

If you’re fortunate enough to have a home in an area with a lush green backyard or a mountain range, picture windows might be for you. Picture windows offer a beautiful unobstructed view without any breaks or visible frames. They are perfect in homes where airflow isn’t important because they do not open. They are less prone to air leakage because they do not open. Another thing to keep in mind is that they can gain or lose a lot of heat even if you use energy-efficient double-pane construction.
