With Scarborough’s unique location on Lake Ontario and just northeast of downtown Toronto, residents enjoy access to numerous cultural and recreational opportunities throughout the year. This holds true during the holidays as well. As the season approaches, it makes sense to learn about the many seasonal events that are scheduled for the metropolitan area and to make plans to attend these events with family and friends. Our local team at Alair Homes has put together a list of top events for you to consider.

Black-Owned Holiday Market

On December 8, stop by Exhibition Place to get your last-minute Christmas shopping done at the Black-Owned Holiday Market. This popular event is held from noon until 9 p.m., and it gives you the ability to shop with dozens of black-owned businesses in one convenient location. The market also features various forms of live entertainment, drinks and food. All are welcome, and proceeds benefit a children’s charity.

All Is Calm, All Is Bright

At the All Is Calm, All Is Bright service at Trinity-St. Paul’s United Church and Centre for Faith, you can experience the peace that washed over World War I soldiers during the holidays in 1914. This armistice day started on Christmas Eve more than 100 years ago when thousands of troops decided to call a truce for the holiday without instruction from their commanding officers. The day is celebrated by singing carols that the troops sung throughout battle zones on that Christmas Eve. All Is Calm, All Is Bright is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on December 8. Food donations to support those in need in the local area are being accepted at the event.

12 Beers of Christmas Party

If you are looking for a fun, light-hearted way to celebrate the season with your favorite adults, bring your friends and family to the 12 Beers of Christmas party at the Gladstone Hotel on December 22. Slide into your ugliest Christmas sweater, and arrive at 6 p.m. ready to have a great time. Partygoers can sample 12 different beers while enjoying music, karaoke and more. Breweries will be represented at the event and will be selling additional drinks. This event is expected to sell out, so buy your tickets soon.

Majestic NYE 2019 at Fairmont Royal York

Your holiday fun can carry through New Year’s Eve when you make plans to attend the Majestic NYE 2019 party at the Fairmont Royal York hotel. This is a huge event with more than 3,000 anticipated partygoers celebrating the new year’s arrival across several ballrooms. Starting at 6 p.m., guests wearing their finest attire will arrive for dinner and drinks as well as music from six DJs. You can also enjoy live music and dancing from skilled burlesque dancers.
