Choosing a Home Builder
For my first blog post, it seems fit that I talk about why I chose to be a part of the Alair Homes team. My wife and I have a passion for homes and real estate, renovations, designing and decorating, home flipping, landscaping, and all aspects of the build process. Our first new home we had built, we were not at all happy with the customer service from our builder. In the sales process we were painted a beautiful picture about how it would be, but after signing the contract it seemed like more of a prison sentence.
For our next home, a truly custom designed home, we went to 3 different builders hoping to find one that would impress us and exceed our needs. That didn’t happen. First off, when you bring the word “custom” into it, automatically the sq ft price hits the roof. Also, and maybe more importantly, we wanted to be involved in every step of the process and have control. Well, most builders only allow scheduled site visits and there were just too many limitations. We were scared off and so we built our own home, our way. Through the process we became home warranty approved and soon started our next build.
When I was approached by Alair Homes with the opportunity to open a location in Saskatchewan, my research began. I quickly identified that Alair Homes is exactly what I was looking for in a builder but just couldn’t find before! Knowing that I would have chosen Alair Homes to build my custom home I knew that a gap in the market place would be filled! I could attract people like myself, people that are looking for that truly unique builder that’s tailored to the customer.

Before I committed to Alair Homes, I was asked; why do you need Alair? You know how to build a home, you are home warranty approved, you are good at what you do, why do you need Alair Homes? Well, when I first thought about becoming a proper home builder, I was overwhelmed with the need for employees, professional software and systems, legal issues and contracts, safety programs and support, marketing and advertising, accounting, invoicing, payroll, tax remittances, web design, office staff, administration, etc. There is a wicked amount of overhead in having a proper home building business and the costs related to having a proper office and staff can easily be hundreds of thousands a year. A certain amount of homes with a certain amount of profit MUST be sold. In my talks with consultants, they were amazed at the low royalty fees in comparison to the support offered from Alair, and no overhead risks!
Now, after just a few months, I actually own a home building company with years of experience, fine tuning and success, a team of very professional and highly qualified office staff, and the systems/network/tools to smoothly and professionally operate my business. I can truly focus on what really builds my business: The Customer!
