Hello Lisa – tell us, how did you discover your talent for interior design?

I have always loved good design.  Even as a child, my bedrooms always had themes.  I couldn’t handle it if there was something that didn’t ‘fit’… whether it was a country craft room, a snowboarding/skateboarding/wakeboarding room, or a room that was black and white with absolutely no other color.  I was always changing things up. Once I was married, I took some online courses, decided to start a small biz, and word of mouth spread, and work just kind of keeps coming to me… so it sort of just happened!

How would you describe your design style?bedroom

I am always changing things up, but at the moment, I’d say eclectic, modern with a touch of boho.

What inspires you today?

I am inspired by nature.  I love incorporating elements of nature in design projects as much as possible.

What are your favorite projects you’ve completed?

My favorite projects are definitely the ones where the client puts their full trust in my creativity and doesn’t give me too many restrictions.  Those are the ones where things can really happen, and so far no one has been disappointed!

What has been your key to success?

I have learned to really get to know my clients.  Learn who they are as people, and their personalities.  Once a relationship is established, then it’s quite easy to create a space that is beautiful and functional for their needs.

What do you enjoy most about your career?

Design is more of a hobby for me.  My career is first and foremost being a mom.  I just enjoy the challenge of making something out of nothing, and taking something ugly and making it beautiful.  Seeing the final product and a vision come to life is a super cool thing that I genuinely enjoy.

Does your design process change when doing interior design for a custom built home?lime tree interiors

A custom built home can have many challenges & can be very stressful for the client if they don’t have proper guidance.  It is usually the largest investment that people make, so I take that very seriously.  I want the client to love the space now, but also make sure it’ll be functional & have timeless style that’ll last for years to come.

What are some design trends that you see?

I have been seeing lots of black windows – they work with almost every design style, and I think it’s a trend that is here to stay! Also, white walls and white kitchens are still going strong, but black walls and black kitchens are starting to show up and they look amazing as well. Lots of raw natural materials are also being used that have their own imperfections, giving pieces more character. Lastly, vintage pieces are a huge trend. Thrifting has gained a coolness factor and lost its stigma of being low quality and undesirable. Now, someone’s trash is truly someone else’s treasure.
