Coming from the finance world and revenue property (renovation) world, transparency has never been more important. So when making the switch into the home building world, we strived to replicate transparency. This was not easy. And for most Canadians, when deciding whether to build a revenue home, flip a house, renovate a home, and knowing where your finances are going is critical when deciding if it is ‘worth it’.

Myself and my business partner (Keenan George), unfortunately, had to go through the trenches to find transparency. We had built multiple projects with other home builders in Regina, used multiple renovation companies, all of which built for fixed cost. There is no problem with this approach, however we did not feel it was fair to ourselves (or any other Canadians for that matter). For example, if a home builder decides to go with a lower quality furnace to save money, why shouldn’t that savings be past to the home owner. Better yet, why shouldn’t the home builder have a say on if they want to use that furnace? What happens if it is a low quality furnace and the parts are not located in the city you live in? For most Canadians, they may not think of that, but when it is -35 in January and your furnace stops working at 3:30am, maybe the transparency and communication of which furnace was being installed would of helped … Can you tell this is a real world example?

Another example of transparency that is valuable to us is probably the most important part … cost! When building or renovating a home, cost needs to be aligned with what you have been approved for. So why wouldn’t homebuilders and renovators show the client exactly what the cost is? Most will not, because full disclosure doesn’t always align with the builder or renovator.

The benefit of being part of Alair Homes Regina is that each project is full disclosure to the client. From dry wall, concrete, flooring, to granite, each step is fully transparent and shown to the client. Even the profit on each project is shown. This is leading edge, and hopefully will set the bar high for the rest of Canada when it comes to construction.
