I recently have had to deal with a couple of really ugly situations when preparing to replace some flooring in my renovations. Being able to make smart, informed decisions when faced with an adverse situation or unexpected hiccup in a renovation is priceless. Not only will it save time and money, but it will also avoid a ton of stress.

Previous Mistakes

The first curveball was a bathroom remodel, which took an incredible amount effort to remove some well-laid sub floor. The clients decided to completely change the layout of their existing bathroom in order to make their space feel bigger. The previous linoleum upgrade they had done throughout their home had a particle board subfloor installed by somebody who knew definitely what they were doing. It was a 2 hour battle with scrapers and demolition bars to get a quarter of the way through the removal process.

The Executive Decision

It became apparent that a time management decision needed to be made. While taking up this sub floor, we were actually peeling the top veneer off the plywood off as we went. We looked at the time remaining for removal, and the filling that was going to be needed to re level the surface, and we made a decision with the homeowner to fully cut out and remove all of the existing 3/4 floor sheeting. For the cost of labour involved, the price of 2 new sheets was a great decision.

Watch for Part 2!

The right professionals will be able to help you think about the best procedures for you, but always consider cost and time management.
