For people who live in Burnaby, summer is always a favorite season. The weather is finally nice and warm, and there is always a lot to do. Whether you are visiting here or relocating, here are some of the events going on the in the upcoming months that you might want to check out.

Chalk Art Experience

The chalk art festival is one of the highlights of summer for art lovers. The event is on June 16th and runs from 11 AM to 5 PM. Local and international artists take to the sidewalks and streets on this day to showcase their art with chalk on the ground. They turn the city streets into an art gallery! During the event there is also face painting, food trucks, live music, and other forms of entertainment. This is a great family activity that takes place rain or shine.

Canada Day

Canada Day is on Sunday, July 1st and it is celebrated with different festivities all throughout the city. At the Edmonds Park and Plaza there are all sorts of family-friendly activities like face painting, music, arts and crafts, and bingo. At the city museum lots of performances and other activities can be found. There are singers, dancers, displays, multi-cultural events, a parade, and food. Both of these events start at 11 AM. At Swangard Stadium there is a Canada Day concert at 5 PM. Afterward, there is an impressive firework show as the grand finale!

Summer Fun at Civic Square

Throughout the coming months the Civic Square hosts different events in the evenings, like movies, concerts, and activities for children. The Bob Prittie Library next door has information on when and what the events will be.

Symphony in the Park

Once a year the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra performs a free concert in the park. It takes place on July 8th at 7 PM at the Deer Lake Park Festival Lawn. They always perform a mix of classics and popular favorites so everyone gets a bit of what they want. Bring a blanket or chairs and a picnic to make a fun evening out of it.
