With each new year comes new trends in color options for your home. Color-management company, Pantone Color Institute, announced its choice for color of the year. For 2017 they chose Greenery, a vibrant, grassy hue reminiscent of spring time. Paint companies all followed suit announcing their top color choices for 2017. The trend seems to be with deeper hues in purples and grays with a few outliers consisting of softer neutrals and yellows.

Shadow

Benjamin Moore’s top color choice this year is Shadow. Shadow is a deep, saturated purple color with underlying gray tones. This color is rich in nature so it will have a high impact. Using it in large amounts might make a room feel too dark and gloomy so use it as an accent or in small doses for maximum effect.

Byzantine Blue

Gidden’s color choice for 2017 is similar to PPG’s choice with a color called Byzantine Blue. This color is a nice mix of purple and blue with a lot of gray tones in it. This could be a good neutral option because of the undercurrents of gray but it will provide a bigger impact than some of your more traditional neutral tones.

Cloudberry

Olympic also followed suit with the purple trend with their pick called Cloudberry. Cloudberry is similar to PPG’s Violet Verbena making it another good choice for a bedroom or bathroom. This color is a bit softer and more playful so it would also be nice in a nursery or playroom.

Violet Verbena

PPG Paint’s color choice is in keeping with the purple trend but on a much lighter and brighter note. The name of the color is Violet Verbena. It is soft hue and exudes a peaceful feeling so it will work well in a bathroom or bedroom.

Poised Taupe

Sherwin-Williams color choice is a gorgeous neutral tone called Poised Taupe. It’s a nice mix between a gray and a brown and could be used virtually anywhere in your home.

Kettleman

Getting away from the purple hues, Kelly-Moore chose Kettleman as its pick for the year. Kettleman is a dark gray neutral that will work well in a variety of places. Because of its dark nature, you will want to use it in smaller doses or anywhere you want to achieve high impact.

Honey Glow

Dunn-Edwards stands alone in the pack with their color choice this year. They chose Honey Glow, a bold but warm yellowish, gold color. Honey Glow might not be for everyone but it’s a very nice and bold neutral that could work well as an accent color.

If you are interested in using any of these paint colors, working with a contractor like Alair Homes West Vancouver, can be incredibly useful. They can test samples on the wall and work with you to find the best uses for these colors in your home.
