It’s officially holiday party, Christmas concert, family celebrations time of year! We absolutely love pulling out the holiday decor and mixing up the eggnog and rum while the snow falls gently outside. We also love that this time of year brings a whole new array of family-friendly activities to check out around Winnipeg. If your schedule is jam-packed over the next few weeks, don’t forget to schedule in some family time and make plans that can start new traditions and bring a sense of holiday joy even in this busy season. We’ve compiled a list of our favorite holiday activities that we encourage you to find time for in December. All of them are the perfect way to make special moments and take advantage of the season with loved ones.

Fort Whyte Alive Breakfast with Santa

Breakfast with Santa is always a holiday classic, but at Fort Whyte, you have the added bonus of plenty of other winter activities to take part in after you enjoy breakfast with the man himself! Explore Fort Whyte and check out the toboggan run, or rent snowshoes and really take in the cold, snowy Winnipeg winter!

Canada Inns Winter Wonderland

We love this Winnipeg tradition! Head to the Red River Exhibition grounds and enjoy a spectacular Christmas lights display – all from the comfort and warmth of your car! Grab some popcorn or Christmas cookies and hot chocolate and bring the whole family through the dazzling holiday lights. If you’re ready to brave the cold, stop by on a weekend and explore the exhibition by horse-drawn sleigh!

Children’s Museum Eaton’s Fairytale Vignettes

If you really want to experience a true holiday throwback, visit the Children’s Museum this holiday season and enjoy a classic reproduction of the Eaton’s Christmas displays! Fairytales like Humpty Dumpty, Cinderella, and Three Blind Mice have been carefully set up to recreate displays from as far back as the 1940s. We think this is a great idea to experience something new and different during the holiday season!

The Centennial Concert Hall

Nothing says “holiday season” like classic carols and Christmas music! There are so many shows happening at the Centennial Concert Hall in December that we’ll leave it to you to explore what sounds most interesting to you and your family – but one of our favorites is Handel’s Messiah (a holiday classic). It’s sure to be a new experience for any younger members of the family! Get in the holiday spirit and take in one of the many concerts happening over the next month.

Royal Winnipeg Ballet Nutcracker

For so many Winnipeg families, seeing the RWB perform Nutcracker is the true mark of the start of Christmas and the holidays. It’s a wonderful and classic performance of one of the most famous ballets, and it’s sure to enthrall your whole family. Book your tickets early as this one sells out fast.

We’re truly looking forward to all the memories and special moments that these events and activities will bring for our own families, and we hope these suggestions help you find a special way to celebrate the holidays this year! All the best in the busy weeks ahead and happy holidays from the Alair Team!
