When it comes to home renovations, there are no shortage of places to look for inspiration: home design magazines, interior design blogs, a million and one brochures and pamphlets from suppliers and contractors. But it can be challenging to wade through all the ideas and find your own personal style.

One of our favourite ways to find inspiration and ideas for every aspect of a new home project is with Pinterest and Houzz – two platforms designed specifically to give you access to the best and trendiest ideas in home improvements and décor.

Using these two resources is a great way to determine your personal style and to find creative and unique ideas for all sorts of projects, like designing for small spaces or what to look for when hiring a contractor. We want to give you a brief overview of how you can best utilize them for your next project!

Pinterest

Pinterest is a treasure trove of visual interior inspiration. First organize your personal Pinterest boards based on the type of project you’re working on (for example, if it’s the entire home, organize your boards by room) Then, start searching for keywords related to your renovation and when you find a photo that piques your interest, save it to one of your Pinterest boards to refer back to later! Most photos on Pinterest link back to websites or blogs where you can read more about the photo you love!

Pinterest is especially great for staying up to date on current home design and interior trends but it’s also a great place to look for DIY projects and ideas if you’re on a budget!

We’d recommend starting your search for ideas and inspiration on Pinterest so you can finesse your personal style and end goals of your renovation!

Houzz

Houzz works a little differently than Pinterest. It’s set up specifically to help you through each step of your home renovation. From finding contractors and professionals, to discovering new design ideas, to shopping for products for your home – you can do it all through Houzz. One of our favourite features of Houzz, is the home tours section! There are always incredible homes to browse through and find ideas, especially for the end stages of a renovation when you’re looking for fun, unique interior design inspiration!

Because Houzz is set up specifically for home projects, it’s a great place to go once you know what you’re looking for. There are a lot of refinement tools you can use to search through the website!
