We are thrilled to announce that once again, Alair Whistler is a Georgie finalists! (Last year, we were nominated for this project.)
The Georgie Awards are a province-wide competition for residential construction and renovations. The Canadian Home Builder’s Association of British Columbia has been holding the awards for over 30 years. As usual, the CHBA says they get dozens of entries for every category and the competition is fierce. This year, we are nominated for best condo renovation under $250,000.
The Project
The project that has been nominated for a Georgie Award is an 1100 square foot condo in Whistler Village. It has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The condo is used as a short term rental unit and like many others like it, it was built in the 90’s. Translation? It was in need of a major makeover. The entire space had poor lighting, outdated finishes and an impractical layout. Our client’s ultimate goal was to set his condo apart from others in the rental pool.
The Details
We quickly got to work. Firstly, we removed a couple of the internal walls to create an open-concept living space. We also updated the lighting plan (check out that cool chandelier above the dining room table) and all of the fixtures and finishes.
Of course, we were fortunate enough to work with a great design team that really turned this condo something special. Integrated Design Studios made sure that every room and every nook was both functional and appealing.
So even the bedroom wall went from basic to bold. We painted it a rich blue and added paneling for texture and visual interest.
Also, check out this great ski and boot rack that’s located right by the front door. Clever and artful storage!
Most importantly, the client’s investment is really paying off: He is able to charge a higher nightly rate and his unit is almost always booked.
The Georgie Awards
A judging panel of third party industry professionals will be judging the entries for the Georgie Awards. The winners will be announced at a black tie gala on May 25th in Vancouver.
While having Alair Whistler named a Georgie award finalist is recognition enough, we would, of course, love to win. So fingers crossed and we’ll keep you posted!
