Active neighbourhood plans in Vancouver city include, among others, Downtown Eastside Plan, West End Community Plan, Mount Pleasant Community Plan, Marpole Community Plan, and Grandview-Woodland Community Plan as compiled by Alair Homes.

Downtown Eastside Plan

This plan took at least two years of preparation with an aim of enhancing the lifestyle of the residents of Downtown Eastside. Another objective of this plan is to enhance ways of implementing the Downtown Eastside Housing Plan of 2005, which was developed by the Downtown Eastside Council. The City and the Local Area Planning Process Committee was responsible for the preparation. Various groups were represented in this committee, including low-income earners, middle-income earners, business organizations, and social service organizations, among other groups. Hence, the plan was crafted in such a way that residents of Downtown Eastside were involved as they were allowed to offer their opinions, feedbacks, and ideas at each step of the planning process.

West End Community Plan

West End community undergoes changes including demographic, climatic, and economic, among other changes. Because of this dynamism, the community had to develop a suitable plan to meet the demands of its residents, in order to ensure that the community members continue to live better lives, hence the formation of the West End Community Plan. This plan features both short-term and long-term goals that act as a guide towards achieving development and positive change within West End. Some of the goals include improving infrastructure, revival of struggling businesses within West End, ensuring that resources are accessible to each resident and renovation or replacement of old public facilities. Additionally, this plan is in line with other initiatives aimed at achieving affordability, economic development and sustainable environment within Vancouver.

Mount Pleasant Community Plan

This plan is a product of extensive public planning process and contains a 30-year positive change guideline for Mount Pleasant community. The City Council of Vancouver adopted this plan in 2010. The content of this plan touches on aspects such as land use, housing, transportation, community culture, community heritage and economic development. Following the adoption of this plan was the adoption of the plan’s implementation package by the same council, which took place in 2013. In this package, there is a public benefits strategy, the Lower Main Urban Design Framework and a Public Realm Plan, among other strategies.

Marpole Community Plan

The plan was developed by the Vancouver City Council to meet the challenges posed by various changes within Marpole community, in order to ensure that residents live quality lives. Some of the changes that necessitated the development of this plan include increased population, aging community facilities and climatic changes. This plan is based on various principles, including the need to address housing demand of the increasing population, the need to promote stable economic development, and the need to promote culture, creativity and heritage within Marpole community.

Grandview-Woodland Community Plan

Launched in 2012, this plan, just like the Mount Pleasant Community Plan, aims at ensuring that the needs of Grandview-Woodland community residents are met for the next 30 years upon its completion. This is due to the inevitable economic, demographic, environmental and social changes occurring in Grandview-Woodland. The formation of this plan was to end in December 2013, but the planners requested for time extension from the Vancouver council. The council gave a nod to the request.
