Toronto is both Canada’s largest city and the capital of Ontario. It is considered a global city; as such, it is a center of culture, business and art. This city has a lot to offer in terms of summer activities for both visitors and residents. Here is a short calendar of events if you are searching for ways to stay occupied during the long summer days in Toronto.

TD Toronto Jazz Festival

The jazz festival is an annual event that takes place in the early summer; the first one was held in 1987. Since then, it has become one of the premier jazz festivals in North America. The festival will run from June 22 to July 1, and a lot of it will be centered around the Yorkville neighborhood. Roughly 200 artists will be performing at the festival, and they will range from local acts and new performers to established, well-known artists like Seal, Holly Cole, and Bela Fleck & the Fleckstones.

Toronto Outdoor Art Fair (TOAE)

TOAE began life in the early 1960s to promote local artists. It takes place at Nathan Phillips Square near the City Hall. In 2011, its organizers established Art Now, outdoor exhibits devoted to performance art, installation art and other types of non-commercial art. TOAE displays works by both established artists and art students. There is also a children’s area with workshops and small, inexpensive pieces budding art collectors may buy. The Partial Lounge, which is designed to resemble a living room, allows visitors to put up their feet and listen to talks about art and art collecting. This year, TOAE will take place July 6 -8.

Festival of India

The Festival of India is an annual summer event that made its debut in the 1970s. It always starts with a parade down Yonge Street that is patterned after one in Puri, India. The parade includes dancers and a trio of floats that are 40 feet tall. Most of the other events will take place at Centre Island. They will include a free vegetarian feast, a bazaar, traditional dancing and musical performances, and other exhibits devoted to the Indian culture and heritage. This year, the Festival will be held on July 14 and 15.

There will be a variety of shows and live entertainment as well as rides for both children and adults. The animal exhibits include a cat show and performing horses. The CNE will also host a variety of markets, restaurants, and food courts. The CNE will take place at the Exhibition Place near Centennial Park and off of Gardiner Expressway.
