Many of us, in all aspects of our lives, are far too reactive instead of proactive. This is especially true in your home. Our homes can become cluttered and disorganized, and we only decide to do something after things have become a disaster. If this has been you in the past, use these eight different systems to help you get organized.

Labels

Labels are a simple way to help keep everything organized. Even if you think you’ll remember what is in a certain box or container, the chances are you won’t several days later. This system is useful for spices or other items that are easily confused.

A Place For Your Files

Having files spread out on your desk, or even worse, all over your house can cause loads of stress. Investing in a file cabinet to keep all of your files organized is essential. Just be sure to label the various folders and documents. Also, make sure your most important files like your taxes, insurance information, car documents, and other items are easy to access, and they’re not hidden in the back of the cabinet.

Thrift Store Bin

A bin, or basket, used to throw away items destined for the thrift store is a fantastic way to get rid of items on the fly. When you’re heading out for an errand, just grab the bin and drop it off at the nearest thrift store.

Coat Storage

Installing cabinets or hangers near the front entrance, or garage door entrance, to your home keeps coats, hats, shoes, and scarves organized where you can find them the next time you go out. Otherwise, these items have a tendency to end up everywhere in your house.

Laundry Baskets

Creating more than one laundry bin for socks, spare change, and dry-cleaning items helps things go smoother when laundry time comes around. You won’t have to worry about getting the dry-cleaning mixed up with your other laundry, and you won’t have to dig quarters and pennies out of the dryer.

Wall-Mounted Storage

Storing items on your wall is nothing new, but using some creativity to store items on unused walls in your home is advantageous for organization. If you have a spare wall, hang some hooks for your jackets, tools, shoes, or toiletries.

Small Storage Boxes

Little items are difficult to organize, but having small, labeled boxes in your closets and drawers gives these items a home. This works great for utensils, ornaments, plates, and trinkets.

These tips are great for reorganizing your home, but they are perfect if you’re building a new home from Alair Homes. Being preventative and taking action on organization will give your home a streamlined, anxiety-free space for you to enjoy.
