Kitchens are where all the magic happens. Friends gather around to cook, converse, and laugh. It’s no denying a kitchen is one of main focal points of a house. In terms of real estate, the kitchen can make or break a sale. The following trends will be sure to make their way into 2017 for designers and contractors all around.

1. Accent Windows

Gone are the days that a simple wall is painted to provide a focal accent. In 2017, windows are the new accent walls. Not only are windows utilized for letting light in, now they will be used for their design. Drapes and curtains won’t be necessary. Designers are focusing on elegant wood frames with interesting shapes and frames to show off in the kitchen.

2. Cabinets with Color

Darker colored cabinets will be making their way into lower cabinets and kitchen islands. White or neutral kitchen cabinets will still dominate hanging cabinets but look for the color contrasts between the hanging and bottom cabinets. You can also expect to find simple cabinet structures with flat panels with a simple and minimalistic touch.

3. Smart Appliances

In 2017, look for kitchen appliances to be working smarter and not harder. Steam ovens and induction elements will be seen more than traditional ovens and stoves. Appliances will be able to be controlled by apps on homeowners’ smart phones.

4. No-fuss Surfaces

Smarter and smaller appliances will offer an easier cleanup after use. Wider tile with less grout will be prominent in back splashes and floors. Appliances that offer multiple purposes will be easier and quicker to clean.

5. Featured Shapes

2017 will be the year for more prominent shapes in the kitchen. Back splashes and tile patterns will feature more chevron patterns, hexagons and other patterns. Home owners will balance out the geometry by using white or neutral color palates.

6. Pink!

Pops of pink throughout the kitchen will be hot this year. Look for darker shades or lighter soft shades of pink to be featured in dish towels, florals and other kitchen accessories. Bright pink retro appliances are becoming available to purchase as well.

7. Deep Sophisticated Tones

In addition to pops of pink throughout the kitchen you can also expect to see more jewel tones in the kitchen. Dark shades of ruby and emerald with accents of gold can be expected to be featured on cabinets, chairs and back splashes.

8. Intimacy

Designers and homeowners will be putting more of their personal design taste in kitchens in 2017. Utilizing all of the above trends, homeowners will not shy away from using rich jeweled tones, interesting geometric shapes and fun textured accessories in the kitchen.
