I’ve been a construction project manager for many years, and one of things I like the most is bringing together so many disparate pieces and elements to build and ultimately complete a long-lasting quality product.

The Numerous People Involved in Any Construction Project

Any construction project has many moving parts and, no matter the size of your project, there are potentially hundreds of people and suppliers that are responsible for working on your home or commercial business. From the manufacturer of the materials, to the sales people that support the products, to the shipping and transport companies, to the architects and engineers, city planners, building inspectors, surveyors and trades people, skilled co-ordination is required to help you realize your dream project.

In addition to the many people involved on the project, there are also other external factors that impact a project like weather and environment, the completeness of the drawings and specifications, and material availability and delivery, to name just a few. A good project manager has to be vigilant when overseeing a construction project by co-ordinating the selection and client acceptance of materials, expediting the purchase of materials and monitoring delivery, arranging site inspections at the appropriate stage of construction, and managing the trades to ensure that they arrive and complete their/ work in a timely and properly sequenced schedule.

Over the years, I have worked on many exciting projects – performing arts centres, hospitals, pharmaceutical facilities, colleges and universities, community housing and solar farms – with some outstanding people. I’ve enjoyed the camaraderie as well as the unifying goals we all have to complete a project that satisfies us both personally and professionally. Everybody wins when all the aspects of managing a building or renovation project conclude successfully.
