On the first Saturday in June, Riverside hosts its StreetFEST. This neighborhood is known for its heritage buildings, DeGrassi TV vibe and award-winning restaurants. During the afternoon festivities, music resonates throughout Queen Street East while local chefs feature tasting plates.

Beaches International Jazz Festival

Each July, the Beaches International Jazz Festival runs for three weeks, offering locals and visitors alike the opportunity to enjoy the music of over 100 bands. Admission is free, so you can consider most of your July booked!

TD Festival of South Asia

For two days in mid-August, the TD Festival of South Asia provides visitors and locals from around Toronto the opportunity to enjoy the flavors of South Asia. There is a live music stage and a beautiful fashion show on Saturday night, along with all of the Indian and other cultural cuisine you can eat, from the colorful region of South Asia.

A Stroll Among Wildflowers

When you need an escape but want to stay close to urban conveniences, take a stroll through the wildflower preserve of Todmorden Mills, along the scenic Don River. Todmorden Mills is a cultural center which provides insight into the earliest days of Toronto’s industry, showing how urban sprawl and industrialism affected the natural environment of the Don River Valley.

Lush Gardens and Art Workshops

To bring out your inner Picasso, visit Cedar Ridge Creative Centre. There, artists of all ages can pick up a brush or other tools of visual expression and partake in some art classes. An art gallery is also on site for those who just wish to enjoy others’ work. There are rotating exhibits of all kinds to enjoy throughout the year. The Centre’s lush gardens beckon for a little exploration in the fresh air, as natural beauty is displayed as well as the gallery pieces.

Go back to school in East Toronto, to check out Historic Zion Schoolhouse, a school built in 1869 and restored to its 1910 quality. Once the elementary school for of children of L’Amaroux, you can visit it as a museum or take children to some of the school’s educational programs.

Walk Some Trails and Check Out a Pioneer Museum

Spend a day enjoying the walking trails of Thomson Memorial Park. Take a detour into Scarborough Museum to learn more about East Toronto’s rural roots, settlers and innovations of the 20th century. There are also a wide variety of weekend events offered throughout the summer, providing a full day of diverse outdoor, indoor, quiet and social fun.
