Red Deer is the third most populous city in Central Alberta, Canada. Located in a region of rolling hills and parkland, it is home to grain, oil, cattle, and petrochemical production and is a center for agriculture and oil distribution. Founded in 1882, it was incorporated as a village on May 31, 1894. as a town on June 12, 1901, and as a city on March 25, 1913.

July 1st – Canada Day

Canada Day is a national holiday celebrating the anniversary of when three separate colonies essentially became Canada. The annual Canada Day festivities in Red Deer present free cake and coffee, lots of family-friendly events including story telling and face painting and an outstanding fireworks display. Last year, those celebrations commemorated 150 years.

July 15 – Aebleskiver ‘n’ Jam

Enjoy “all-you-can-eat” æbleskiver, which is a traditional Danish dessert that is served with jam, together with juice or coffee for $12.00. Volunteer musicians perform, there are games for children and adults, and other volunteers demonstrate how to make æbleskiver with a special pan. If you are adventurous and really want to fill your belly, there is even a æbleskiver eating contest!

July 18 through 22 – Westerner Days Fair and Exposition

More than 90,000 attended last year’s Western Days Fair. It is Central Alberta’s largest annual celebration held for five days in Westerner Park. There is a thrilling parade in downtown, midway rides, yummy fair food, live entertainment and plenty of fun for people of all ages.

Mid-July through Thanksgiving weekend – Kraay Family Farm

This Farm has Alberta’s premier Lacombe Corn Maze. In addition, there are more than 40 attractions including the corn blaster and pumpkin cannon, gemstone mining, play areas, mini golf, and more. It is open to the public beginning in July, and season or daily passes are available. Bring your family along to enjoy mini golf, a ride on the grain train, chicken shows and plenty of other fun activities down on the farm.

Friday, July 13, and Friday, August 10 from 6:00 to 10:00 PM – Ross Street Patio Parties

Ross Street Patio Parties bring out music lovers of all ages to enjoy entertainment, food and drinks in the heart of downtown Red Deer. Free live music performances by talented local bands and musicians on the Patio take place throughout the week and on the weekends. The event is open to individuals of all ages, but the shows sometimes run late. This is a great choice for date nights or an evening out with your older teens.

August 25 – Family Fun Fest

Family Fun Fest is an annual extravaganza that includes plenty of kids-geared activities like live magic, bouncy castles, stilt walkers, balloon animals, and much more. Take your family out for a few hours to escape the midst of construction, or make a day of the fun to celebrate the building of your beautiful new custom home in Red Deer.
