When you think about a group of people in Central Alberta who truly give back to the community, the Red Deer Kinsmen Club are an ultimate example. Since the 1920’s Kinsmen Clubs across Canada have been giving back to their communities. Through donated time, fundraising, and event planning, they are making a difference in people’s lives. One of Red Deer Kinsmen’s biggest fundraisers each year since 1981 has been the lottery home. Partnering with a local builder, the lottery home is built, then the Kinsmen donate their time to host open houses, sell tickets and ultimately draw a lucky winner who will win a brand-new home! Scandinavian Themed 2022 Kinsmen Dream Home
This year Alair Homes had the opportunity to partner with the Kinsmen as the builder of the lottery home. With it being Alair’s first year as the selected builder for the Dream Home, the goal was to build a home that was unique and would attract a lot of attention. The design was inspired by a modern Scandinavian theme. Modern in comparison to the typical Central Alberta build, yet warm and inviting. With a flood of natural light coming through the large windows and the neutral color palette, natural wood materials throughout and high vaulted ceilings, it certainly makes a bold yet comforting impression when you walk in the front door. Solid maple, open rise stairs with topless tempered glass railings lead you up to the Primary Retreat. An oasis complete with a walk in custom tiled shower, huge closet and floating double vanity.
Partners of the Project
To build a distinctive home like this on a tight timeline and budget, you need an exceptional team alongside you. Alair is very lucky to have built over the years, many of these relationships. Starting with the City of Red Deer and the Timberlands development, they helped us select the right lot for the project. L.Kat Drafting and Design took the time to understand the vision and create blueprints the met that vision and worked with architectural controls. Each and every trade on the project supported the cause and the project however they could. Many with significant donations and gifts in kind. This is a massive difference maker in allowing the proceeds of the lottery to aid local charities.
Built Smart
When showcasing this project, Alair wants people to walk in and feel how solid the home is. To feel how comfortable the climate is. This home was built well above provincial and nation building and energy code to make sure who ever wins it will feel confident in the quality and longevity. For example, from a structural aspect Alair spray foamed the entire vaulted ceiling to ensure no moisture issues down the road. This improves R-value, efficiency, and overall comfort. From a finishing standpoint, high end luxury vinyl was used throughout. This product is water resistant, scratch resistant and built for everyday life. This house was built to perform long term.
Using Local Artists & Vendors to Furnish the Dream Home
Something unique about this years Dream Home is that it comes fully furnished. Much of the décor in this year’s home is from local small businesses and vendors. Wall art in the kid’s room done by a local artist. Hours on hours were spent sourcing the right products to fit the feel and vibe of the home. This under appreciated aspect of the process is what really brings the home to life!
