Ever since I can remember, I wanted to build and design homes. When I was eight years old I would draw endless floor plans and build model houses out of cardboard. In high school I geared all my classes towards architecture and design, which naturally led me to taking Architecture in University. I didn’t know then that I would find my path in managing instead of solely designing, but it wasn’t long before I realized project management was where I really excelled. I knew I wanted to start my own company and was starting to gear my work experience towards becoming more independent. It was a really scary thought to start my own business from scratch all on my own. The marketing seemed extremely daunting. I didn’t even know where to begin on that, and not having a partner or anyone to start up the business with made the whole thing even more discouraging.
I was working with a builder in the city, helping him with his day to day’s, when working a home show together we decided to walk around and scope out the competition. That’s when I came across the Alair Homes booth. Their branding and overall presence was nothing like anything I had seen before. It was their system, structure and process that really stuck with me, as it was how I saw myself running my own business one day. My first thought was, I want to work for them, how do I work for them. I started doing a bit more research and found that they had partners across Canada operating independently yet under the same umbrella.
I started to look into it more, talking with various different partners within Alair Homes and quickly realized that this company was special and was building themselves to be something great. What really sold it for me was the network within Alair, various industry professionals all operating individually, yet still together. Being able to call on any of these partners as ally’s instead of them being the competition made starting up the business far less scary and more of an attainable reality. Working for Alair Homes Peterborough allows me the freedom to operate my day to day business as an independent business owner, but equips me with the resources, tools, systems and procedures necessary to be successful.
Now two years in, I can say that as the Alair family grows, the expertise, wealth of knowledge and overall professionalism of each individual partner makes me proud to be part of the Alair team.
