With a new year comes new trends in home design. Whether you have a 10-bedroom home or an 800 square foot apartment, it’s always good to know what’s in and what’s out as the calendar changes for the coming year. If you’re thinking about having some home remodeling projects completed in 2019, we have put together a few trends that we will be seeing in the new year.

Colour

Colour is one of the easiest ways to change the look and feel of your home. It can be a do-it-yourself project if you’re up to it, or you can simply hire someone to come in and brighten up a room with new paint. You always have the option of building off of your own colour palate. From warm, rich hues to soft neutrals, your rooms will take on a look that you will love when you update your home with a new colour. If you’re planning to sell, or if you just want to keep with the times, let’s look at some of the popular colours you will see in 2019:

Walls

Home remodeling can really make some welcome changes to your home and besides painting, there are other ways to change the look to walls. Did you know wallpaper is making a comeback? Not only is wallpaper a new (but old) trend for 2019, but if you have missed the florals from bygone years, rest assured that it is making a huge comeback. Floral wallpaper has always been an elegant way to make your design statement, and it is back in beautiful form.

Another new trend for 2019 is colourful ceramic wall panels. These panels will transform any surface. They are oversized, so there are no unsightly seams. The patterns and colours are nearly limitless. From the look of palm leaves to the appearance of oxidized and weathered steel – you can design your home’s walls with the look that you want.

Floors

Yes, we still love the rich, dark shades of walnut and cherrywood. What’s new in floors in 2019 is that we are seeing lighter coloured floors as one of the hottest décor trends in the new year. Pale birch or oak can open up living or dining room areas to make them appear larger and lighten them up.

Less is more

Minimalist living is all the rage, per magazines, TV and books. Many people are trying to de-clutter their homes. This trend is impacting home design as well. We are seeing fewer shelves full of knick-knacks with people leaning towards less decorated, clean spaces. More natural items such as handmade objects made from wood or clay are showing up in the most well-dressed homes.
