30 Jun New Seismic Building Requirements in British Columbia

Canada is one of the most beautiful places in the world to live. However no place is perfect. On the West Coast for example we live on the “Ring of Fire “, comprised of basically all of the land surrounding the Pacific Ocean. This so-called ring is extremely prone to earth quakes. These quakes can be so small that they cause little to no damage at all or they can get big enough to cause serious damage – like we saw in the 1989 San Francisco earthquake or the 2011 Japanese earthquake and resulting tsunami.

Alair Homes prides itself on living up to certain standards in both our construction projects and in the way we treat our Suppliers, Sub-Trades and Clients. So often in competitive sports or business you hear stories about the negative side of competition/business, like hockey parents fighting in the stands at Tyke games or companies not looking after its employees after 25 years of service. The Motocross community from our perspective has been a great fit with our values.

22 May Investing in Your Own Rental Property – Renovating or Building a Rental Home

As most of us already know the majority of Millionaires and even more of the Billionaires in the world today have made their fortune through real estate. I read a very interesting article last week written after the author had interviewed the investment guru Warren Buffett. In the article Mr. Buffett noted that the very best investment he could make in North America today would be residential real estate. He stated that he would purchase a couple single-family residences in the one hundred to three hundred thousand range, mortgage them at today’s very low mortgage rates and then rent them all out. The rent being paid more than covers the mortgage, taxes, maintenance and miscellaneous costs. As well, each and every month that goes by the equity in each investment property grows as the tenants continue to pay down the outstanding mortgage.
