Grey Bruce is a study in contrasts: Residents might even say that it’s a place where you can go fishing for prize salmon in the morning and catch world-class professional theatre at night. Really. You can do that, all on the same day. It’s a playground for people who take a holistic approach to life.

While it’s a great place to visit anytime of the year, it’s especially inviting to live here in the summer, when the warm sunshine draws lines of falling stars in the fresh waters of the Great Lakes. If you’re going to be in the area in the coming months, here’s what you can look forward to during the summer of 2018.

1. Coffin Ridge Boutique Winery

In this region of Canada are some of the most fertile and rich soils anywhere on Earth. Wine growers gravitate toward just such places, and the Coffin Ridge Boutique Winery is one of them. It’s a place where wine aficionados can walk among the lush grape vines of the vineyard, learn about pairing different wines with cheeses and other delicacies, and generally, become involved in wine culture in the region.

It’s truly a place where you can just grab a lawn chair and a glass of your favorite Chardonnay and gaze out over the rolling hills of this valley for a few hours. Or, if you truly want to make a weekend of it, rent out one of the onsite houses, the Writer’s Haunt or the Resting Place, and truly immerse yourself in wine culture.

2. Inglis Falls

Inglis Falls is a piece of sculpture, hewn out of the rocks and shaped over time. It also counts as one of the most popular scenic destinations in the area. The water of the falls trips down a natural stairway before reaching the pools of water below. It’s an excellent place to just take in the natural beauty of the region. Or, if you so choose, make it the starting point of one of the most stunning nature hikes you’ll ever enjoy.

3. U-Pick and the Farmers’ Markets

Foodies can’t go wrong in this county. It’s a region filled with U-Pick farms and farmers’ markets and plenty of culinary tours. Apple lovers will adore the Apple Pie Trail. At the Farmers’ Pantry, foodies will find not only apples, but cherries and raspberries and even a petting farm. For the more culinary curious, a stop at Filsinger’s Organic Foods is a lesson in organic farming and the creation of rich, orchard-friendly soils. These and other destinations are a great way to spend a warm morning with family, especially if you love the fresh scent of growing fruit playing gently on the breeze.

4. Meaford Arts and Cultural Centre

This century-old landmark has been restored to its former glory and counts as one of the truly amazing arts and culture destinations in the area. For those who love the arts in all their forms, it’s a dream. On any given day, you might catch a play or watch a film or even take in some stunning landscape paintings in one of the galleries. It’s a wonderful place to visit when you find yourself missing artistic expression in your life.
