Iconic town barn gets a second chance

A large property severed to include what the long-time neighbours claim to be a ‘horse stable’, the clients were thrilled about their new purchase and wanted to restore the home while keeping the character of the space. Project Manager, Alex Titterington, was the lead on the transformation and remembers every detail of it well. “We fully renovated the home into a modern yet classic design. By removing walls and replacing the stairs with glass panels, the open concept became a focal point and welcomed an airy feel,” says Alex.

The kitchen was a ‘cabico’ style supplied by Allandale Home Hardware. The beautiful walnut island was from Canadian Butcher Block and the stairs were made by Stairhaus in Barrie, ON.

“It was a challenging project in the uniqueness of the  home’s original state, but we overcame it well thanks to the considerable planning that we did.”

Alex’s advice for clients looking to complete a similar project or change, “Have a clear vision on what you want and be patient as with old buildings, regardless of how much coordination you do in advance, you can discover a lot during the construction process. Some matters need to be dealt with in a prompt and precise way, and it’s important to respond accordingly to respect the integrity of the home for years to come.”

With Alair’s patent ClientControl™ system, the building process is transparent which reduces stress and extra costs allowing for a memorable experience throughout the entire transformation.

Alex holds the relationship with the clients in high regard, recognizing that it was the trust they had in Alair that allowed the team to make the best decisions for them despite the ‘historic’ surprises found along the way. “This was key to staying on track to bring their dream to life.”

Here’s what our client has to say about working with Alex

Alex T of Alair Homes has been a pleasure to work with, model experience. He was highly communicative, responsive, professional, timely, knowledgeable, and most appreciated, calm, and friendly. He pretty much mastered it on everything. As is expected with a reno, there can be some tense periods. Navigating our reno in the middle of a pandemic and over Christmas was no easy task. But Alex kept his cool and friendly manner resulting in much needed comfort and confidence during a very disruptive time. He maintained excellent customer attentiveness despite the pandemic and the twists and turns that our reno took. Many times, after endless reno discussions and updates, we would always land on, “Alex is a great guy, such a pleasure to deal with.”
