Recently I had a conversation with someone about their opinion on Electro Magnetic Frequencies that made me stand up and listen. Especially when he showed me how EMF can affect our everyday lives.

Did you know your health is at risk?

The measuring tools he had were high tech (German) and measured with a high degree of accuracy. As a test, we measured the bedroom of my home to determine if there were any Electro Magnetic Frequencies that could affect our health. When the readings were complete, I was in complete shock. The electrical wiring in the walls and ceiling below the bedroom showed very high readings. If a #1 is acceptable, we weren’t even close. One outlet beside my pillow measured a 38 on the meter.

Turning off all of the electrical breakers in the house and one by one turning them back on proved that the 14/2 wiring in the walls of the room, as well as the lamps and other devices that were plugged into them, created an antenna effect. And the resulting EMF could have a negative impact on our health.

How do I fix the issue? How much will it cost to rewire the area around our bed? Is rewiring the only solution?

Retrofitting an existing home can have it’s challenges. There are options but they come at a cost. There are devices you can install to turn breakers off for the hours your in the room. There are anti-magnetic paints that can be applied on the plywood or walls (along with grounding tape to drain EMF back to the main bond)

-New homes should be wired with EMF in mind. Here are a few tips as explained to me:
-Mount electrical panels at the far end of the home from bedrooms
-Use BX type wiring in bedroom walls (bond to each electrical box)
-Install Cat 6 Data Cabling for Smart TV’s or computers instead of wireless
-Use Edison type light bulbs instead of LED or “Energy Saving Bulbs”

There are a lot of white papers available that can provide a lot more information than you will find here. Educate yourself.

I know that in every new home build that Alair Homes Collingwood will be designing or building, we will make every effort to minimize the impact of EMF.
