Sprucing up your home doesn’t have to be overly complex. Most people just need a little bit of guidance of where they should start or they just don’t know what is possible. Let’s take a look at some of ways you can spruce up your home and what it takes to do so.

Paint

Painting would be the easiest and quickest in terms of making your house feel new and fresh again. Adding a feature wall in either a bedroom or even in the living room can add a character without much effort at all. Painting is also something you might consider doing yourself however, hiring someone will get the job done much quicker and the quality of finish will be higher, unless you’re an experienced painter yourself.

Kitchen

There are a few things that can be done in the kitchen without ripping the entire kitchen out, unless that is what you’re going for. Updating the countertops and backsplash can make an old kitchen feel brand new. If you had no tile backsplash installed originally then this will be fairly simple, if you did have backsplash installed then it will take a little bit of time to rip that backsplash out and you might have to do some repairs to the drywall after before the new backsplash can be installed. As a side note, if you are looking to renovate your entire kitchen please contact the ReStore in Camrose and they’ll come to take out your old kitchen free of charge, which will be installed in a Habitat for Humanity home.

Flooring

Let’s be honest here, if your home still has the original carpet from the 80’s then this might be a good place to start. Something to consider when doing new flooring in your home is that you probably will have to rip off the old baseboard. Even if new carpet is going down in the same area, modern day products are thicker so the baseboard will have to come off. If you’re looking at tile, luxury vinyl tile, luxury vinyl plank or linoleum all these floors need to have an addition subfloor/substrate installed over the subfloor that is resting on your joists. Carpet, hardwood, and laminate do not require an additional subfloor.

Sprucing up your home doesn’t have to break the bank as long as you’re smart and selective of where you spend your money. Having Alair Homes come alongside you and guide you in the right direction is a good place to start.
