A dry home is a happy home, and any house in Canada will be continuously battling the elements to keep its occupants as cheerful as ever. Modern building standards ensure that environmental pressures are considered when designing the exterior of a home and technology such as vinyl siding, alternative roofing protection, and composite protective materials are known to many homeowners. However, there is one culprit in every home that an owner may not be as aware of: the foundation.
In June of 2013 a unique combination of high-pressure and low-pressure storm systems created perfect conditions for torrential rain, causing more than 200 millimeters (approx. 7.9 inches) of rainfall in under 2 days time. Southwest and West Calgary were unfortunately hit particularly hard during this time. Now that all the hype and media attention has diminished, the question lingers…how is Calgary’s economy looking today, almost three months after the flood devastated so many people in southern Alberta?
We had clients ask us to give them an estimate on a major renovation to their existing house. After submitting the estimate, the clients asked if they could get a preliminary rendering of the exterior of the home and the estimated cost of construction. We presented the attached rendering to our clients, and they loved it. They commented that they did not realize that they could have this home built for that price in Calgary.
