Bathrooms often pose a challenge when it comes to designing interiors. They’re generally small, sometimes crowded, and require solving the puzzle of fitting a bathtub, sink, and toilet into one room. With all this in mind, creating a space that is as visually appealing as it is practical can be tricky. Fortunately, one of our favourite ways to upgrade and brighten up a bathroom doesn’t require any space at all! We love incorporating unique tile options into a bathroom renovation as a way to add colour, texture, and stunning design without using up any precious floor space.

1. Herringbone

Whether used as a backsplash, flooring, or in the shower, herringbone tile is a great way to bring texture and interesting lines into your bathroom. With this type of tile pattern, it’s usually best to stick with one colour and allow the interest to come from the pattern itself rather than using overly colourful tiles. Choose one or two neutral colours to bring a feeling of elegance and geometric depth to your space.

2. Moroccan

We absolutely love the multitude of options available when it comes to finding the perfect moroccan tile. Deep, rich colours, exciting patterns, and different mosaics all add a feeling of escape to your bathroom – and since it’s the first room you visit when you wake up in the morning, a gorgeous moroccan tile pattern can bring a punch of colour and excitement in an otherwise practical room.

3. Scalloped

This particular pattern isn’t seen as often when you do a quick Pinterest search for bathroom tile ideas, but it’s incredibly unique and a great way to add texture and depth to a backsplash or shower area. We love combining a few different colours to create a sort of fish-scale effect.

4. A Pop of Colour

Of course, sticking with a common pattern like subway tile or a classic grid is always a great option when you choose to incorporate bright or contrasting colours. Jewel tones especially create a feeling of warmth and add comfort to a space. There are so many options to choose from, it can be a little overwhelming, but don’t forget you can always follow a more abstract pattern and periodically insert coloured tiles with neutral or white.

5. Hex Tiles

One of the trendiest options for tile work right now is definitely hexagonal tiles. There’s something about crisp, white, geometric tiles that gives a bathroom a look of cool modernity. We especially love hex tiles for bathroom floors as it’s a real change up from the usual boring squares.

We hope these ideas give you some inspiration for your next bathroom reno. We love the process of finding fun inspiration for finishes and details like the pattern and colour of tile in a bathroom. And we especially love working with our clients to make sure that even renovations in smaller spaces like the bathroom result in a transformed space that makes you feel relaxed and at home.
