Riding Mountain National Park: A Manitoba Outdoor Retreat

While Riding Mountain National Park is recognized as a national treasure, it still maintains its local and welcoming spirit. There are not many Manitobans who do not hold a sense of nostalgia for this beautiful southwest corner of our province. Many of us spent our summers along the banks of Clear Lake or somewhere in the wilderness among the extensive trail system of Riding Mountain National Park. We had our first wildlife sighting, built our first campfire, or huddled together under the stars in this sanctuary known as Manitoba’s cottage country.

For many, ourselves included, summer is not truly summer, without the opportunity to spend our time in this outdoor haven. While we could go on for days about the millions of reasons we hold this area close to our heart, we will keep it to the top three.

Wasagaming: Riding Mountain Village Townsite

Tucked away just 100km from the city of Brandon is the charming resort townsite of Riding Mountain National Park, Wasagaming. Visitors around the world have fallen in love with the laid back and welcoming atmosphere of this picturesque town. Wasagaming sits along the banks of Clear Lake and is home to a variety of shops and restaurants. We recommend strolling around for a bit and then settling in at the pub to meet a few new friends.

Clear Lake

If you are a visitor to the area you will quickly learn that local Manitobans rarely call Riding Mountain Park by its name, instead they refer to it as Clear Lake.  Visitors can rent a boat or kayak for a tour around the island or simply take in one of the breathtaking sunsets Clear Lake is known for. We recommend grabbing the kids and spending a few hours on a pedal boat followed by a picnic dinner on the shore of Clear Lake Beach.

The Wildlife

The wildlife in Riding Mountain is abundant. It is not uncommon for you to see bear, moose, and bison all in one day. We recommend a day of camping to truly immerse yourself in the beauty of the area and take in the unparalleled beauty this park has to offer.

Whether you are seeking an adventure, day with nature, or just a change of pace we feel certain you will find what you are looking for in this beautiful region of our province. Our team at Alair Homes is proud to have Riding Mountain National Park right at our doorstep. We have been building and renovating in cottage country for many years. If you are looking to call Wasagaming your summer home, we hope you will consider our team to renovate your Clear Lake cottage.
