Bernadette: “Hi everybody my name is Bernadette Laxama I’m here with Veneesh as well from Xeva mortgage and we are speaking with David from Alair Homes. And we are talking about the importance of renovation and construction and finding somebody that you can trust when it comes to these things. David can you share with us how is it that somebody can find somebody that they trust in terms of renovations and constructions?”
David: “Sure. That’s something that’s universal across Canada and across the lower mainland is who do you trust right? And really that’s a that’s most people go looking for referrals from people they know, if they had a good experience or not right? But really if you are in a position of having to trust somebody about your finances like your construction, your home where you are talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars even millions of dollars, that’s a scary place to be where you are just having to trust somebody. So what we recommend is that you should have the disclosure and transparency to where your money is going what all the quotes are and all the invoices so that you can see for yourself where your money is going and you have some control over the choices you are making. That’s the safest way to proceed with it and that replaces the trust where you just have 100% trust in somebody where you have your own control as well. And that’s really what we have learned through hundreds of customers the safest way to approach it.”
Veneesh: “What if they wanted to do some research on their own? Or if they look up a builder, like what types of credibility would they be looking for and where would they find that?”
David: “One of the great things with the internet these days is that if you go to the company’s website they can control the information that goes on there, but if you go to things like Google reviews and the third party reviews, if people are mad about what happened then they are going to write about it and you’ll see that come up. So go on their Google Reviews and others and you’ll see if there’s 5 stars and if there are a bunch of people saying “these guys are awesome”, then they are probably awesome.”
Veneesh: “What about Awards?”
David: “Yeah so awards as well. That’s more in terms of the quality of work, so awards are given for outstanding designs outstanding homes and renovations that were done so if builders have awards that’s also an important thing, it gives you confidence.”
Bernadette: “Okay those are the three things: Transparency, and then of course the Google reviews, and the awards. So those are key things in finding someone you can trust.”
