It would be easy to think that the services of an interior designer are not needed and that doing it yourself would save you a lot of money. The truth however, is that having one greatly adds to the value of your home, which can come in handy when you put in on the market.

Interior designers do much more than just ‘design’. They also know contractors, electricians and plumbers who can help get the design implemented the right way. They know where to source ‘materials’, or designer items that are not readily available to the public. The reason why these items cannot be obtained easily is two-fold – designed homes are meant to have that exclusive feel, and some of them are carefully hand-crafted, with artisans working closely with and accepting orders only from a circle of interior designers, architects and home improvement contractors. Contrary to the popular belief, these pieces are not ultra-expensive either. There are many interior designers and not everyone works with a celebrity or someone who has the money to afford the finest things in life. Most interior designers work on a budget, one that has been explicitly approved by you.

But most importantly, it is for their knowledge that you should hire an interior designer. People generally know of only white, cream or other light colors for their room walls. Interior designers can show you color combinations (even using solid/dark colors) and themes you would never have thought of. They can also help you get the right furniture; what you might have in mind maybe too large for the room, this might result in the room looking and feeling crowded, and you don’t want to find this out the hard way, after you have purchased the furniture.

Interior designers don’t force their ideas on to you either. All you need to do is communicate what you want and he/she will be happy to suggest the best way(s) to make it into a reality that too in the most aesthetically pleasing and functional way possible.
