Flowers and greenery have always been a “staple” in home décor around the world. Here at Alair Homes Huntsville, we are inspired daily by the vast amount of wildflowers that engulf the landscape. Their brilliant colours offer a portrait that is ever changing, while their unique aromas stir the senses in a way that nothing else can. There are a multitude of all shapes and colours, all of which come together to make a breathtaking scene.

While flowers and plants offer an array of proven benefits (they have even been proven to increase productivity and happiness!), they are also an economical way to add “new life” into your space. With a little creativity, vision, and focused execution, you too can create a beautiful addition to your home with a fresh new flower arrangement. With some tips and tricks, we would be happy to help you along your flower-arranging journey.

You must consider the “cradle” for your flowers. There are many options depending on the size, shape and look you want for your arrangement. You can choose the classic glass vase (which invites a more dramatic arrangement), or get a little more creative with a country favourite, the mason jar (which will nicely compliment a more simple arrangement), or my favourite, the white porcelain pitcher. The options are endless, but be sure you don’t overlook this key component that can ultimately bring your arrangement to the next level.

Whatever the occasion is, or whatever space you are looking to spruce up, keep in mind your colour pallet and choice of flowers. Ask yourself what the main purpose of your creation will be. Perhaps it is to add a splash of vibrant colours to a birthday party (Gerbera daises would be perfect for this), lend a soothing array of pastels to your work space (Lavender is my go to), or add a touch of romance to your bedroom (deep red or white roses will always do the trick!). No matter the occasion, be sure to consider the effect the colour, and style will have on whoever is seeing it.

Greenery to flowers is like hot fudge to an ice cream Sunday. They create a beautiful, complimentary backdrop for your flowers, and suit any colour and creation. It is important to not hide your flowers by the greenery, but arrange them to frame and support your flowers. If you’re not a flower person, greenery is a perfect alternative as it can be a statement on its own, adding a touch of organic goodness to your space.

A couple other quick tips include:

-use tape, elastic, twine or ribbon to keep your arrangement secure if need be.

-If you can, use snippers as opposed to scissors to cut your stems before placing them… scissors can “crack” the stem and shorten your flowers life span.

-Some flowers can cause headaches and/or allergic reactions… I always google my flower perspectives before choosing them (and smell them too!)

If vision is just not coming to you, consider Pinterest your best friend in these moments. It’s always a good idea to take a look at what others have done, so you can mimic and customize to create your own statement piece. With these considerations and tips and tricks, we are confident your guests will be asking which florist you go to!

Have fun and enjoy. This is your masterpiece… so have fun Picasso!
