Spring is here and it’s a great time to get items checked off the home to-do list in April. Be ready for all the fun of summer by following this list of springtime tasks for home improvement. Get the family involved by assigning tasks to everyone with a reward such as a fun family outing when all is accomplished. If that sounds like too much work, hire someone. It will be worth it to go into the busy summer season with the house in order.

Deep Clean

Take a really good look at each room in the house and get rid of the clutter first. Work a room at a time. Don’t be tempted to just move the clutter around. Have a system in place for items that are permanently leaving the house and one for things that need to go to another room. Once the clutter is gone, add deep cleaning tasks to regular cleaning. Wash windows, wipe down baseboards, clean under and behind appliances and beds. Ensure all window coverings are cleaned or washed and sanitize all wastebaskets.

Redo the Patio or Porch

Now that Spring is here, spending more time outside is a welcome reality. Create an outdoor oasis. Even small changes like a new plant or adding a bird feeder can make a big difference. Check the patio furniture to see if any repairs or replacements need to be made. Splurge on an outdoor fireplace or chiminea for cool evenings.

Check Out the Home Exterior

Winter can be harsh on the exterior of a home. Check the roof for any obvious signs of wear such as missing or loose shingles. Made sure the gutters are cleared of leaves and twigs and repaired if necessary. Consider a fresh coat of paint on doors, window frames and shutters.

Landscaping

April is the perfect time to make changes in the lawn and garden areas. These can be tasks as simple as tidying up the yard or as dramatic as adding new plants and trees or starting a brand new garden. If space is an issue, there are some amazing vertical gardens that can be created for growing vegetables, herbs, succulents or flowers.

Renovate a Tired Space

If there is a part of your home that just isn’t working for you anymore, perhaps it’s time to consider renovating. Maybe there’s a need to update a room to this decade, create a more functional space or just change up the aesthetics. Alair Homes in Grey Bruce can answer questions and help you make the best decisions about renovating.
